Continents in Conversation is a literary festival and complement to AFRICA SALON 2016, organized by AFRICA SALON Literary Content Curator Sarah Derbew ‘18.

The one-day event features three intimate, interactive sessions with American playwright Kia Corthron, Sierra Leonean and Scottish novelist Aminatta Forna, Malawian poet Jack Mapanje, Ethiopian-American novelist and screenwriter Maaza Mengiste, Nigerian novelist and editor Okey Ndibe, Nigerian novelist Chigozie Obioma, South African journalist, film director, and novelist Margie Orford, Nigerian-Belgian novelist Chika Unigwe, and Rwandan storyteller Clemantine Wamariya ‘14.

The full day’s program includes:

9:30am: Breakfast 
10:00-11:00am: What is African Literature? Session with Jack Mapanje, Maaza Mengiste, and Okey Ndibe
11:15-12:15pm: Nationalism and Reality Session with Kia Corthron, Margie Orford, and Chika Unigwe
12:15-2:00pm: Delicious catered lunch
2:00-3:00pm: Luxury of Youth Session with Aminatta Forna, Chigozie Obioma, and Clemantine Wamariya
