Join the Yale African American Affinity Group and Indigenous Leaders at Yale for a discussion with Shonda Buchanan, author of award-winning memoir, Black Indian. All attendees will have a chance to win a free copy of Black Indian. This event will be recorded.

Shonda Buchanan is an award-winning poet, fiction, nonfiction writer and educator. Her book, Black Indian, begins the saga of her family’s migration stories of Free People of Color communities exploring identity, ethnicity, landscape, and loss. Descendant of African nations, the Coharie, Choctaw and Eastern Band Cherokee, and Europeans, Shonda lives and writes in Los Angeles on Tongva and Chumash land.
