They plan to discuss Daryl’s 20 years of NBA management, as well as his unstandardized approach to using sports analytics,better known as “Moreyball,” to make key decisions. A Q&A will follow our conversation.

Please join us at the Yale School of Management or via Zoom for an engaging discussion about Black History as Tim Shea will be talking to Zoë Chance, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Yale SOM about his new book “Big Man: An Incredible Journey from Mississippi to Hollywood”. Big Man is a story about the life of Willie Harris, a man who was raised as a sharecropper on a cotton plantation in Mississippi during Jim Crow, served in the U.S. Air Force, and went on to become one of the leaders of the Black Stuntmen’s Association (BSA) in Hollywood in the 1970s.

Elijah Anderson, author of the newly released Black in White Space: The Enduring Impact of Color in Everyday Life; Provost’s Postdoctoral Scholar at USC Annenberg and U.S. Sports Envoy for Skateboarding and Visiting Fellow in Race, Culture & Community Dr. Neftalie Williams; and renowned dancer and choreographer and assistant professor of physical-theatre at Montclair State University, Stefanie Batten Bland, will have a candid conversation on the nuances of race in physical spaces, moderated by YSC Associate Artistic Director Jennifer Harrison Newman.

Yale Schwarzman Center (YSC) is proud to host five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, activist, and actor Angélique Kidjo Hon. Music ’15 and her daughter, actor, writer, and multinational performer Naïma Hebrail Kidjo ’15 for an intimate conversation about identity, belonging, forgiveness, and the power of family. This event coincides with the first leg of a global tour of the Kidjos’ new original music theater work, Yemandja.

Join the Afro-American Cultural Center and YSC for a screening of the award-winning documentary followed by a discussion with writer/director and former New Haven resident Melissa Haizlip and Yale Professors Thomas Allen Harris and Daphne A. Brooks. The topic will be “Making the Archive Public: Radical History in Public Television.”

David W. Blight is Sterling Professor of History and Director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University. He previously taught at North Central College in Illinois, at Harvard University, and at Amherst College. In October of 2018, Simon and Schuster published his new biography of Frederick Douglass, entitled, Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom, which has won over seven book awards including the Pulitzer Prize in History, the Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize, the Bancroft Prize for History, and the Francis Parkman Prize.
