Join Future Leaders of Yale and the Yale African American Affinity Group for a panel discussion designed for young women of color (ages 12-22) that will focus on the importance of community service, education, and workforce development.

Attendees will:

Join Shirley Chock, co-owner of Aiping Tai Chi Center and former Asian Network at Yale Co-Chair, for a Shang Chi inspired Tai Chi experience. Shirley will lead you through a 60-minute gentle exercise program with easy-to-follow, low-impact movements that are designed to improve circulation and relieve stress. The exercises are helpful for alleviating pain in your neck, shoulders, back, and hips. Movements are suitable for all ages and physical abilities and can be modified to be done in seated positions. Please join us for a much needed wellness stretch break!

The New Haven Free Public Library, in partnership with the Yale Affinity Groups, is excited to bring you this new book club for families focusing on topics of social importance. Join the Yale African American Affinity Group for a book club discussion of Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts by Rebecca Hall.

Part graphic novel, part memoir, Wake is an imaginative tour-de-force that tells the “powerful” (The New York Times Book Review) story of women-led slave revolts and chronicles scholar Rebecca Hall’s efforts to uncover the truth about these women warriors who, until now, have been left out of the historical record.

Join the Yale African American Affinity Group and Dr. Levita Robinson for a discussion on breast cancer in the black community, the disproportionate exposure to breast carcinogens, and the highest risk of severe health impacts from the disease. Dr. Robinson will also address the following areas of cancer disparities: research, training, community outreach, and why access to cancer treatment and prevention programs are not equal for African Americans.
