This event will highlight some of Connecticut’s most prominent and influential men of color by highlighting their excellence, contributions to their profession and/or community, as well as their influence and personal brand. Every man invited will be wearing their best tailored suit and accessories, similar to the Fashion Flash Mobs in Philadelphia, Houston, and Baltimore.

In Connecticut, nearly 40,000 people carry the Sickle Cell Trait. Join the Yale African American Affinity Group (YAAA) by running, walking, or biking to support Michelle’s House and Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. YAAA will cover registration for the first 8 people that send us an email at aaag@yale.edu.

The lecture, previously scheduled for Tuesday, November 29, has to be postponed. Information on a rescheduled date will be posted on the Yale calendar and shared through the library e-newsletter when available in the future.

A celebration and exploration of archival materials related to New Haven’s historic Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ.
Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ, founded in 1820, is the oldest African American Congregational UCC church in the world. The church is located in the historic Dixwell neighborhood. The church is celebrating its bicentennial plus 2 in 2022, as COVID interrupted plans for celebrations in 2020!

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s is full of flowers, each carried by someone committed to raising funds and awareness for a breakthrough in the fight against Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. Your participation makes a difference in the lives of those facing the disease.

Join 94.3 WYBC and New Haven Public Schools for the “Sam Tilery Back To School” Rally that will take place at James Hillhouse High School Bowen Field, 480 Sherman Parkway. Backpacks and school supplies will be distributed to New Haven Public Schools students while supplies last. There will be activities, music, community organizations on site, and fun for both students and parents! Stop by the Yale African American Affinity Group, Future Leaders of Yale, and New Haven Hiring Initiative tables for free school supplies and swag!

Local children’s author, master cook, and Army veteran Winsome Bingham visits the New Haven Free Public Library, 133 Elm Street, Café Patio (1st floor)! Listen to a reading of Soul Food Sunday, participate in activities that get kids moving, and ask questions! This event is offered in partnership with Yale’s affinity groups. Open to all ages and families, up to a maximum of 20 kids. Registration is encouraged.

Research tells us that people may experience the same conditions differently. For all communities to benefit from medical advances, it is essential that research studies include people from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences. The panelists will discuss recruitment efforts and barriers to recruitment, and will seek input on how to better engage all communities.

Join the Working Women’s Network and Yale African American Affinity Group for a book club discussion on Sing Her Name: A Novel. Follow the path of two musically gifted women whose lives overlap across the boundaries of time.

Please join the Future Leaders of Yale, LGBTQ Affinity Group, Working Women’s Network, Yale African American Affinity Group, and Yale Latino Networking Group for an information session with Love146.

Attendees will learn about child trafficking, vulnerabilities that make a child more susceptible, programs that Love146 offers, and how to help/get involved.
