Prepare Now For Your Child's Future Recap

In April the YAAA hosted Prepare Now For Your Child’s Future with Dr. Steve Perry. The speaker series event focused on the importance of providing viable learning opportunities for all children. Dr. Perry’s message also centered around hope, personal expectations, mobilizing communities, generational change, and inclusivity for diverse communities; with a special focus on African American and Latino children.

YAAA & FLY Emotional Intelligence Workshop Recap

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the inspiring and interactive Emotional Intelligence (EI) workshop, led by Dena Simmons, Director of Implementation from Yale’s Center of Emotional Intelligence on March 30th, 2016. Dena’s presentation drew from her experiences as a proud Bronx native, student, teacher, researcher, and activist. She shared with us the EI tools to create a workplace where we can feel safe to thrive and succeed in. As well as, guided us in defining how we want to feel in our own workplace and setting SMART goals in taking actions to build them.

Creating A Career Plan Recap

Sandra LaJeunesse, Founder and Partner of Odyssey Consulting presented a session on, Creating a Career Plan. The objectives of the session were to identify, clarify interests and desired workplace culture, and determine existing contacts, information, and resources for career decisions. During the breakout sessions, participants enjoyed highly engaged conversations in teams.
